What is Fingerprint Jewelry?
Fingerprint jewelry consists of pieces where the unique fingerprint of a loved one is engraved. The fine lines of the print are set into a pendant, coin, ring, or bracelet using a special (laser) engraving technique. From a distance, it looks like a beautiful, organic pattern; up close, you see that it is a true fingerprint.
Fingerprint jewelry is often chosen:
-
as a memorial piece (for example, of a deceased loved one).
-
as a "mama" or "papa" jewelry piece with a child's print.
-
as a romantic gesture with the print of a partner.
Because no two fingerprints are the same, every piece of jewelry is literally one-of-a-kind.
How does the personalization of fingerprint jewelry work?
The core of fingerprint personalization is a good, sharp print. Many providers explain this step-by-step and work with an upload tool for your photo or scan of the print.
Step-by-step: How to create and upload a fingerprint:
Option 1 โ With an ink strip (most commonly used by webshops)
-
Remove the foil from the ink strip.
-
Place your finger in the middle of the ink strip and press firmly without sliding.
-
Lift your finger straight up and press it calmly onto the white part of the provided card.
-
Repeat a few times if necessary so you have several prints to choose from.
-
Take a sharp photo or scan of the best print (ensure good lighting, no shadows).
-
Upload the photo via the upload tool while ordering your fingerprint jewelry.
Option 2 โ With pencil, paper & tape (handy at-home method)
-
Take a white sheet of paper, a soft pencil, and transparent tape.
-
Shade a dark area on the paper with the pencil.
-
Rub your finger over the dark area so that graphite gets onto your fingertip.
-
Press your finger onto a piece of tape (do not slide, only press).
-
Stick the tape onto a clean, white piece of paper.
-
Photograph or scan this print and upload the file with your order.
Step-by-step: The ordering and personalization process:
Step 1 โ Choose your jewelry type Choose, for example, a coin necklace, bracelet, ring, or an individual charm.
Step 2 โ Choose the material
-
925 Sterling Silver.
-
(Gold-plated) yellow gold or rose gold.
-
Sometimes solid 9k or 14k gold.
Step 3 โ Choose the shape & size of the pendant Popular shapes include round (coin), heart, oval, or bar. Smaller coins are subtle; larger ones provide more space for detail.
Step 4 โ Upload your fingerprint
-
Make a sharp photo or scan (high resolution).
-
Check if the lines are clearly visible.
-
Upload the file via the upload tool on the product page.
Step 5 โ Extra personalization (optional)
-
Add a name, date, or short text to the front or back.
-
Choose an extra symbol if desired (heart, star, infinity).
Step 6 โ Check lead time & shipping Production time at many ateliers is approximately 1โ2 business days. Shipping times vary depending on the destination. During busy periods (such as Mother's Day), it may take slightly longer; ordering in advance is recommended. Instructions for taking a fingerprint can also be found on our fingerprint page!

Fingerprint vs. Name Engraving: What fits your story?
Choose a fingerprint if:
-
You want a highly personal and unique keepsake.
-
It concerns a memorial piece (for example, after a passing).
-
You like the fact that the meaning is not immediately obvious to everyone.
Choose a name engraving if:
-
You want the name to be clearly legible.
-
You want to combine multiple names on one piece of jewelry.
-
You are looking for a timeless, classic look that everyone understands instantly.
Many people combine both: a fingerprint on the front and a name or date subtly on the back. This gives you the best of both worlds: visible yet intimately personal! Check out our entire fingerprint collection here!
